CalRecycle to Discuss Expansion of California’s Recycling Program at Craft Wine Association Meeting

By Published On: November 8, 2023

At the next Craft Wine Association meeting on Nov. 15, representatives from CalRecycle will provide an overview of new changes to California’s recycling program for producers to better understand how to comply. Starting on January 1, 2024, the program will include wine and distilled spirits in all container materials, including those packaged in a box, bladder or pouch, or similar container, according to Senate Bill 1013 signed into law in 2022.

For beverage containers made of aluminum, glass, plastic, or bi-metal the redemption payment made by beverage distributors is 5¢ for each container less than 24 ounces and 10¢ for each container 24 ounces or greater. A beverage container that is a box, bladder, or pouch, or similar container, containing wine or distilled spirits, regardless of size, will have a redemption payment of 25¢ per container.

The presentation will include an explanation of labeling requirements that become mandatory on July 1, 2025.

As a quarterly meeting of the CWA’s Advocacy Group chaired by Vinoshipper CEO Steven Harrison, the meeting is open to all association members and small producers throughout the U.S.   Also on the agenda, the group will discuss the National Direct Shipping Bill of Rights which has gained the support of numerous beverage organizations and producers.

The online meeting is scheduled for Nov. 15 at 1 pm PT / 4 pm ET.  Register to attend here.
