Background: In 2022, the Craft Wine Association, in partnership with Vinoshipper, started a series of meetings with the wine industry to explore forming an advocacy group to share information and gain consensus on policies and regulations related to direct sales.
While the wine industry has progressed with direct sales over the years, modernization has been slow. Legacy organizations, with their vast influence throughout government, have resisted efforts to make it easier for small and medium-sized producers to reach consumers directly. As with other industries, the Internet and e-commerce have disrupted old ways of doing business, creating craft movements that give producers more self-sufficiency and consumers more choice. But change is never easy.
Started in 2016 to support small wineries, the Craft Wine Association filed paperwork in 2022 to launch a non-profit advocacy program. We invite all like-minded wineries to join our conversation and give the industry a unified voice to support modernization. Please join our regular meeting every other month to share important information across jurisdictions and to hear from our featured speakers.
